Homeless Paws

Here are some shots of some of the dogs that were at a big adoptathon today...many local animal rescue groups gathered at a mall and LOTS of adoptions were happening, so fun to see! These are all Brother Wolf Animal Rescue pups.

This is Luke. He is a 14 week hound guy.

Not the greatest picture, but this is Daisy...note the adorable bat ears on this cutie pie!

These 2 angels are having some sweet dreams, because they were both ADOPTED today!

This is Kate...a pit bull cutie patootie baby. So calm and sweet.

And, I could not stand how edible her little toes are!! Pink AND black...are you kidding me! I have a thing for doggie toes.

One of my highlights from the event was getting to see my old pal, Festus. Festus is a dog who has been with Brother Wolf for over a year now. He is currently living in a wonderful foster home and has calmed down immensely, now that he isn't living in the shelter. Festus used to go on outings with me to get some time away from the shelter and to try to burn his seemingly inexhaustible supply of energy. Here is Festus after one of our dates last summer.

Festus is such a favorite of mine, that we even have a stained glass version of him in our house! It was an item in a silent auction and The Mister made sure we didn't leave without it. That's love, I do declare...purchasing a piece of art of a dog that isn't even a member of our pack. I think this makes him an honorary member.

Saturday morning around the house

A productive morning of laundry and cleaning, sending The Mister off on a bike race, dog park and preparing to go do some chicken geeking out with Kelly P. And all interspersed with rounds of Drawsome- my new favorite game!

Soundtrack includes: Lucinda, Florence and the Machine, and Kasey Chambers (thank you Pandora!).

Check out this Kasey on YouTube:

33, here I come!!

I read and heard about this study this week, and since my 33rd birthday is just a few days away...it has made me think about how true the study may be. For those of you who didn't click on the link...shame on you, because I just learned how to create a "hyperlink" and am quite proud of it! Oh, and the study found that people are actually happiest at age 33.

A lot of the reasons listed do apply to me...I have a job I love and am secure in, I am oh-so-happily married ( and I'm not just saying this because The Mister is out picking up pizzas for dinner), and I still feel young enough to enjoy lots of life ahead. I've felt this way for a while now, so the prospect of the best year yet sounds awesome! Also, maybe my optimism comes from the fact that I am headed to the Bahamas in 3 days (on my 33rd bday, in fact).

Packing!!

I've been lucky enough to take some really fun trips the past couple of years also traveling on my birthday:

Last year we went to Sedona, Az. A gorgeous and relaxing week. Just something about the West.

Two years ago I went to New Orleans with 2 of my favorite gals! Btw, how did I live in Mississippi for so long and NOT ever make it to that fabulous city?!

This is Tracy and I in a room at a restaurant where someone hung himself. Appetizing.

Our last night in NO, after dinner ( and a hurricane or two..and wine...and birthday shots), we saw this empty police car. I just HAD to pretend that I was being arrested.

Okay, 33...and The Bahamas: here I come.

Jack

Since the title of this blog is paws & laws, I thought it would be appropriate for the first entry to be about the one guy that has been with me through many paws and almost all of law school. My sweet Jack is going to be 10 this year, and he's been my boy since he was 9 weeks old.

He learned to swim in Vermont's White River, spent his first winter in the Vermont snow, and has lived at the beach and, now the mountains of North Carolina. Not a bad first 10 years...I hope I have a hundred more with my first love!
